Prayer & Fasting 2020

Prayer is what connects us to the voice of God, and fasting allows us to eliminate distractions to connect with God on a deeper level. Prayer and fasting together enable us to hit the reset button of our soul, and renew us from the inside out. From January 12 to February 8, we will give God the beginning 28 days of 2020 to seek His guidance and direction for our lives and our church. As a practice, this can be done throughout the year as needed and desired to take your faith and journey to the next level!

Important Things to Know About Fasting

Fasting is giving up something and using that time/energy to connect with God. It is very important to know your body, your options, and, most importantly, to seek God in prayer and follow what the Holy Spirit leads you to do. There are several ways to fast:

Complete Fast

In this type of fast, you drink only liquids, typically water with light juices as an option.

Selective Fast

This type of fast involves removing certain elements from your diet. One example of a selective fast is the Daniel Fast, during which you remove meat, sweets, and bread from your diet and consume water and juice for fluids and fruits and vegetables for food.

Partial Fast

This fast is sometimes called the “Jewish Fast” and involves abstaining from eating any type of food in the morning and afternoon. This can either correlate to specific times of the day, such as 6:00 am to 3:00 pm, or from sunup to sundown.

Soul Fast

This fast is a great option if you do not have much experience fasting food, have health issues that prevent you from fasting food, or if you wish to refocus certain areas of your life that are out of balance. For example, you might choose to stop using social media or watching television for the duration of the fast and then carefully bring that element back into your life in healthy doses at the conclusion of the fast.

Maximize Your Prayer & Fasting

My sheep HEAR my voice; I know them, and they follow me.

An essential part of growing in your relationship with Christ is spending time with Him on a consistent basis. It’s important that we hear Jesus’ voice and respond to it obediently. We primarily hear from Jesus… from God… through the scriptures. So, as a church, we’ll be reading through the following scriptures daily:

By using the “SOAP Journaling Method”, in conjunction with a Bible reading, you will be able to grow more like Him. You will be able to process what you are reading and, more important, put it into action. Click on the link below for all the details to get started!
